Forensic Science Services, functioning under Odisha Police set-up, is one of the oldest Laboratories in the Country. Established in 1962 in Cuttack, it was later shifted to State Capital, Bhubnaeswar in 1971. Apart from State FSL Directorate at Bhubaneswar, it has 3 Regional Forensic Science Laboratories, located at Berhampur, Sambalpur and Balasore and 36 District Forensic Science Laboratories to cater to the requirements of far-off Districts. The laboratory, which has the latest range of modern state-of-the art equipment, with adequate no. of manpower, is committed to provide quality services through good Laboratory practices to ensure efficient justice delivery system, while ensuring impartiality and confidentiality. The Laboratory continuously endeavours to upgrade the quality of examination by adopting the latest technologies and methods to satisfy the stakeholders.

FSL and CCTNS:
State FSL, Bhubaneswar is connected to CCTNS project since 2015. FSL module of the project has been designed to monitor and track all cases received in the Laboratory . Steps are being taken to dispatch Chemical Examination Reports online to Courts and other stakeholders .
State Forensic Science Laboratory, Odisha, Bhubaneswar and the organisations functioning under it, have been exempted from providing any information to applicants seeking information under RTI Act,2005 as per Information and Public Relations Department, Government of Odisha Notification No. RTI-140/17 7497/IPR.BBSR. Date 30/08/2017, which reads as " In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (4) of section 24 of the Right to Information Act, 2005 (22 of 2005), the State Government do hereby specify that nothing contained in the said Act shall apply to the State Forensic Science Laboratory and organisations functioning under it".
